Your Questions Answered

Will I be able to check in with my child throughout the day or receive updates on how they are doing?

Yes! Stepping Stones Academy uses the brightwheel app to send updates and pictures throughout the day. This app allows for communication with your child’s teacher. However, please keep in mind that the first priority of our teachers is the hands-on care for those in their care so an immediate response is not guaranteed. This app will also send an end of day report for each child to help keep you up to date on your child’s activities.

Will meals or snacks be provided?

Parents/Guardians will provide a sack lunch for their child(ren) that’s enrolled in the program. Each lunch must meet the following guidelines:

  • All lunches must be labeled with child’s name
  • A freezer ice pack must be provided to maintain safety of perishable foods.
  • Lunch should consist of a bread, a protein, fruit, and/or a vegetable per USDA nutrition guidelines.

The center will provide unflavored whole milk for children one year of age. Children aged 2-5 will be served either unflavored low-fat (1-percent) or unflavored fat-free (skim) milk. If the dietary restrictions of your child require milk other than what is listed above, you must provide an unflavored alternative.

Stepping Stones Academy will provide a morning and afternoon snack to all children daily. Snacks provided will meet all USDA nutritional guidelines as per state regulations. Weekly snack menus will be posted.

For your child’s health we ask you avoid foods such as chips, cookies, candy, soda, and other unhealthy items.

Stepping Stones is a peanut/nut-free facility.

How much of the instruction will be religious in nature? Do you require a profession of faith from families?

At Stepping Stones Academy we believe that your child’s spiritual and emotional health are just as important as their cognitive and physical development. That means you can expect your child to receive an equivalent amount of teaching in the Bible and the Christian faith as they do learning other skills.

We recognize that our families represent a variety of convictions and beliefs and therefore do not require a profession of faith from families wishing to enroll their child in our center.

How will teachers handle discipline with my child?

It is our policy to only use positive redirection when redirecting a child’s behavior. This allows the child to feel safe, secure and comfortable. We want to give children the appropriate skills to show self-control, respect and positive moral behavior. When our teachers set clear, consistent and realistic limits, children will become easier to redirect. Children learn by what is modeled for them; by modeling respect, kindness, and compassion children will learn to show more positive behaviors. All teachers will recognize and praise appropriate and positive behaviors. Any negative behavior will be redirected by discussing expectations and by offering choices to achieve positive behaviors.

If after a time positive redirection is ineffective in correcting a child’s behavior a meeting will then be scheduled with the parents, the child’s teacher, and potentially the Director to work toward positive solutions.
